"Clearing Storm over Highway 12"

September 2012, Near Escalante, Utah

Utah's incomparable Highway 12 is quite simply one of the most remarkable stretches of pavement to be found anywhere on earth. Stretching approximately 100 miles between Bryce Canyon National Park and the town of Torrey, it has become a Mecca of sorts for motorcycle riders and tourists around the world. The constant-radius curves, perfect pavement and lack of intersections make the road irresistible to motorcyclists.

I've traversed the road dozens of times on various bikes. The only "problem" with the road is that the scenery is so beautiful that you can easily be distracted, which is not a good thing when piloting a bike. I once came around a corner to find a 2000 lb longhorn bull standing in the middle of the highway. Thankfully I was only doing the 45 mph speed limit and was able to avoid the beast.
