The look of love
On the 4th of July, 1987, Lenée and I were lying on the lawn at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California. At the time we were just friends, but best of friends to be sure. It was about 6:00pm and we were just enjoying each other's company as we waited for the annual fireworks show to start later in the evening. Lenée began to give me a look that I had never seen before. She stared straight into my eyes that evening, just exactly like she is doing in this image. It was a stare which would pierce to the very core of my being. I pretended not to notice, unsure of what to make of it. But believe me, I did notice.
Years later Lenée told me that on that memorable 4th of July night "the Lord just flipped on the light switch inside me". She had instantly crossed over that murky line separating friendship from love.
