"Pyrite Crystals"
September 2011, Canon EOS 5D MK2, Canon MP-E 65mm lens
This is a radical departure from anything that I have ever tried up until now. I purchased a unique and specialized macro lens made by Canon called the MP-E 65mm. What is so unique about the lens is that it can only focus from 1:1 life-size all the way up to 5:1 life-size. It has no capability of taking any "normal" pictures. This technical marvel is geared more towards the scientific community or the occasional "macro geek" like myself.
This particular image is an über-close up of pyrite crystals. I shot it at 2X magnification, in other words twice life size. The entire area of the pyrite shown here is only about 1/2" wide.
