October 2004, Eastern Sierra, California
Unlike its western counterpart, the Eastern Sierra is filled with canyons which lead hikers deep into the backcountry. I've hiked just about every one of them, and Lundy is my favorite. Lundy Canyon is filled with aspen groves, beaver ponds, magnificent summertime wildflower displays and breathtaking ridgelines. As if that wasn't enough, the autumn fall colors are as good as they get.
I shot this while standing in the middle of an ice-cold river not far from one of the aforementioned beaver dams. It was the only way I could get the shot because shoreline trees were obstructing my view. You have to be willing to get wet and dirty to get some shots.
