July 2002, Bodie Ghost Town, California
I’ve shot in Bodie many times, and this particular vantage point is unshootable under normal lighting conditions. A stormy day with 100% cloud cover changed all of that , and I’m quite pleased with the resulting image. The clouds acted as a giant diffuser, simultaneously unlocking the door to new photographic viewpoints and adding the moody colors of a summer storm.
The brick-clad building to the far right was built in 1879 and housed both the Dechambeau Hotel and the Post Office. Immediately to its left is the IOOF building, which stands for International Order of Oddfellows. The IOOF lodge was constructed in 1880.
