"Navajo Jewelry Display in Monument Valley"
March 2012, Monument Valley, Arizona
The Navajo Nation has a lot of land throughout Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. It is quite common to see roadside stands as the Navajo proudly display and sell their exquisitely-crafted jewelry. I've bought numerous items from the Navajo over the years for my wife. I always tried to make it a point to come home from all of my photography trips with gifts for Lenée, and she eventually amassed quite a collection. She always appreciated every single piece.
As for the location of this particular display - it is right in the middle of Monument Valley. I've gotta say that I'll take this guy's office over a cubicle any day of the week. I love the absence of computers, phones and desks in this image. Are we really headed in the right direction with all of our modern technology? I need to be realistic about the question of course. After all, without a computer I wouldn't be able to have this website, much less post this picture. But then again - do I really need this website? Believe it or not, I don't even own a cell phone. Half of the places I go don't even have cell phone coverage, so what's the point. I feel no need to tell people on Facebook where I'm eating dinner tonight, and I frankly feel sorry for those who do. Just give me a camera and let me go shoot.
